After two years of teasers, prototypes, and a fierce storm of opinions about Jaguar's brand reboot, the company has finally shown the production Type 01. This is no longer just a polarizing concept that everyone felt free to dunk on. It is an electric grand tourer Jaguar has put almost everything on.

Type 01 goes on sale in 2027, with a UK starting price of about £130,000. In recent decades, no Jaguar has cost this much or looked this radical. For the brand, the car is especially important: Jaguar effectively stopped production at the end of 2025 to move fully into its new electric era.
A Jaguar that did not exist before
Type 01 proportions deliberately break the usual EV rules. There is a long hood, a very low roof, a cabin pushed far back, and huge 23-inch wheels. At 5.24 meters long, the car looks even longer and lower thanks to a roof only 1.4 meters high.

In spirit, this is a modern take on the E-Type more than another electric sedan.
At the same time, Type 01 is the most aerodynamic production Jaguar ever: the drag coefficient is just 0.23. Engineers ran more than 7,000 aero tests and about 1,500 computer simulations. Active cooling shutters close when extra airflow is no longer needed, and an adaptive spoiler adds downforce at high speed. The air suspension also drops the body by about 1.5 cm above 105 km/h (65 mph).
But the main point is not aero. It is the silhouette. Jaguar consciously rejected the tall front end and cabin shoved forward that define so many EVs. The result is a Type 01 that looks provocatively low and long.

An architecture that had to be invented from scratch
That design created a serious engineering problem. To fit a huge 118 kWh battery while keeping an extremely low body, Jaguar developed its own JEA electric platform. The company says none of its existing architectures could deliver the required proportions.
Part of the battery even sits ahead of the cabin front bulkhead. For crash protection, engineers built special aluminum structures that route impact energy around the powertrain and passenger cell. That let the main underfloor pack stay thin and low, which also helps the center of gravity.

Body panels were another headache. One of them, nicknamed the "impossible panel," runs from the A-pillar across the roof and rear body, wrapping around the rear wheel. It is about three meters long, and making it in aluminum took roughly 1,500 hours of tooling work alone.
In the end, the production Type 01 almost matches the original clay model. Jaguar says no body surface wanders more than 7.6 mm from the original shape.

Three motors and 1,016 hp
Type 01 is driven by three electric motors: one up front and two on the rear axle. Combined output is 1,016 hp and 1,006 lb-ft of torque, or about 1,364 Nm.
It reaches 60 mph in about 3.1 seconds, and top speed is limited to 150 mph (241 km/h). Jaguar did not try to turn Type 01 into an electric supercar. The brief is a fast grand tourer that should pull hard at speed and feel more like a very powerful V12 than a nervous EV.

The three-motor layout has another trick. At a steady cruise, the rear motors can shut off completely, and the car keeps rolling on the more efficient front motor alone. When the driver presses the pedal, the rear motors snap back into play. Jaguar reckons that adds about 18 miles (29 km) of range.
Range and interior
Claimed range is about 400 miles (640 km). On a 350 kW fast charger, you can add half that distance in just 13 minutes.

Inside, the minimalist theme continues. A huge 24-inch OLED screen sits in front of the driver, and physical buttons are scarce. Most functions can be controlled by voice, including free-form commands. The Meridian audio system is almost invisible too: 23 speakers are hidden around the cabin, including active noise cancellation in the headrests.
Type 01 looks like a big four-door car, but the layout is effectively 2+2. The rear seats are tight, and the trunk is more like a shelf behind the seatbacks. Jaguar consciously traded practicality for silhouette.
Jaguar is not trying to make another practical EV. It wants to recreate the feeling of a Jaguar: long, low, expensive, and a little impractical.

And that, perhaps, is the whole point of Type 01. The company wants a car that makes people turn and look.
Type 01 could become one of the most important models in Jaguar's 90-year history, or a spectacular miss. Jaguar knows it has put too much on this car to get it wrong. If the bet pays off, Type 01 could do what the E-Type and XJ once did: define how Jaguar looks for the next generation.
